The Thurber Prize for American Humor
The Thurber Prize, the nation's highest recognition of the art of humor writing, is awarded annually to the most outstanding book of humor writing published in the United States. The award comes with a $5,000 prize for the author. Past winners are: Christopher Buckley (No Way to Treat a First Lady), David Sedaris (Me Talk Pretty One Day), the staff of The Onion (Our Dumb Century), and Ian Frazier (Coyote vs. ACME).

The Columbus Literary Awards
The Columbus Literary Awards are biennial awards bestowed upon the best and the brightest Central Ohio writers. Three awards of $5,000 each—one for fiction, one for nonfiction, and one for poetry—are given. The 2007 guidelines and application form are now available.

Thurber Treat
The Thurber Treat is the traditional kickoff to Thurber House's annual Literary Picnics, our summer season of readings and outdoor picnics. Each year, we offer a different writing challenge inspired by one of James Thurber's essays or collections. We then choose the funniest stories of the bunch and invite the authors to be our guests to the kickoff picnic and to read their winning work.

Children's Writer-in-Residence
Thurber House offers a Children's Writer-in-Residence program for writers of children's books. Our residents stay in Thurber House's furnished third-floor apartment and receive a stipend and teaching opportunities.
