NEW FABLE WRITING WORKSHOP!!!

The 2007 Ghost-writing workshops have concluded but check out our new Fable Writing Workshops below.

Fable Writing Fun for Writers in Grades 4 through 6

Are you a 4th, 5th, or 6th grader who loves fables, funny stories, or both? Thurber House invites you to participate in our Fable Writing Workshop, where you’ll create a funny fable based on author, humorist and New Yorker cartoonist James Thurber’s beloved fable, “The Unicorn in the Garden.”

All interested 4th through 6th graders are welcome to participate in this free two-part workshop led by either Kathy Matthews or Jan Hammock. You’ll learn how Thurber created the funny characters and situations in his fables and how he brought it all together with a humorous moral twist in the end. You will work on your own funny fable that will later be printed and handed out at the celebration party on Sunday, May 4.

Instructors: Kathy Matthews is a freelance writer and the former head scriptwriter for “Kids Sundae”, an original children’s radio variety show produced by WCBE 90.5 FM. Jan Hammock is a retired teacher with the Columbus City Schools. Both Katy and Jan teach at the Thurber Writing Academy.

The Fable Writing Workshop is a collaboration of Thurber House, the Columbus Metropolitan Library and Northwest Worthington Library.
