THURBER HOUSE TEACHER FAQ

Are teachers paid?

Yes, teachers receive an honorarium for their teaching based on the number of hours taught. Teachers are hired on a contract basis; it is not a full or part-time job.

How much time is required?

All of our children’s programs vary, and specifics will be discussed at the personal meeting.

How large are the classes?

Class sizes range from 15 - 20 students maximum.

Where are classes held?

Many classes are held at Thurber Center, 91 Jefferson Ave., next door to Thurber House. Some programs will be held offsite at libraries or schools in the Central Ohio area.

What grade levels are offered?

Thurber House offers classes and camps in the following groupings:

  • PreK
  • 2nd and 3rd Grade
  • 4th and 5th Grade
  • 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

We occasionally offer a parent/child class for students in kindergarten or 1st grade.

Are there any opportunities to teach classes for adults?

Thurber House offers adult writing workshops as well. Send an email to Anne Touvell at atouvell@thurberhouse.org indicating your interest in teaching an adult writing workshop, list the topic(s) you would like to teach, and attach your resume. We will contact you and follow up.
