The Thurber Center Series is a new quarterly series featuring authors with an Ohio connection.

David Wanczyk, editor of the New Ohio Review, will talk about his latest book, Beep: Inside the Unseen World of Baseball for the Blind. The first book on blind baseball, Beep illuminates a remarkably innovative and intensely competitive version of America’s favorite pastime. Says the author, “For me, the important thing was to tell the story of beep baseball without idealizing and without patronizing. The sport is more than a feel-good, rah-rah thing. It’s tough and exciting, and the players are as salty as anyone in a major league clubhouse. It was an amazing experience getting to know them and getting to report on this odd game."

David currently works at Ohio University in Athens. His writing has appeared in Salon, Slate, Boston Globe Magazine, Texas Monthly, and others.

All tickets are $15 in advance and at the door. Tickets are non-refundable.
