This is a Thurber@125: Year of Thurber event, celebrating James Thurber’s 125th birthday and the 35th anniversary of Thurber House.
Thurber House is excited to help Opera Columbus and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra celebrate the WORLD PREMIERE of their brand new co-commissioned opera, The Flood, a harrowing story of human connection told through loss and shared tragedy, centered around the devastation of Columbus’ Franklinton neighborhood in the Great Flood of 1913.
To kick things off, Thurber House welcomes Conrade C. Hinds, author of Columbus and the Great Flood of 1913. Hinds will talk about the impact the flood had on Columbus and far beyond. Mr. Hinds is a retired Project Manager for the City of Columbus Dublin Road Water Plant. He taught as an adjunct faculty member in the engineering Technology Department at Columbus State for 25 years. He currently serves on the board of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation.
But wait, there’s more! Not only will we have Mr. Hinds sharing his work, but we will also read James Thurber’s hilarious take on the flood in his story, “The Day the Dam Broke,” and we will share excerpts from The Flood before it opens on February 8.
At Door: $30
All tickets are non-refundable.
